Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings: choosing the West Bank tour

Updated September 12, 2026 · 5 min read

Terraces and cliffs at Hatshepsut Temple

The Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut combination would be my choice for a first West Bank excursion if you want tombs and temple architecture in one booking. It has a clearer focus than a combined tour of both banks and more variety than a tomb-only programme. What still matters is how the advertised hours are divided between the visits and which admissions you actually pay for.

The specific starting point is tour 454032, departing from Luxor. Its title describes a day tour, but the listed duration is 5 hours. For planning, I would therefore use the duration and confirmed pickup arrangements instead of inferring either a free remainder of the day or an entirely occupied day from the label “day tour”.

What the combination brings together

You combine royal tomb visits with a temple site at Deir al-Bahari. The antiquities authority describes Hatshepsut Temple as having three levels. For me, the change between tomb and temple is the real reason to choose this combination, rather than an opportunity to squeeze as many names as possible into a morning.

A guide can use that change to explore a question: how does a tomb’s purpose differ from a mortuary temple’s? I would ask at the beginning. It gives you a link between the sites without requiring you to work through a lengthy chronology beforehand.

Visiting the temple is not the same as visiting Hatshepsut’s tomb. If a particular tomb matters to you, name it separately. A tour advertising temples and tombs together can otherwise create the wrong expectation.

Put the price and reviews in context

In the inventory dated 11 September 2026, tour 454032 starts at €19.77 per person, with a 4.5 rating and 1,905 reviews. For two people, that calculates to €39.54 in starting prices. This total does not promise a fully paid sightseeing day on your chosen date.

The saved description confirms royal tomb visits and a guided visit at Hatshepsut Temple. It does not fully break down admission tickets and pickup conditions. Open the selected option among the West Bank tours and check the inclusions before comparing the amount with another excursion.

The substantial review count helps you find feedback about an already frequently reviewed product. It proves neither a particular pace nor the quality of every individual guide. For your decision, I would especially look for comments relating to the actual version booked, where that can be identified.

How I would read the five-hour duration

Five hours applies to the advertised overall itinerary. It does not establish five hours in the tombs or a fixed time allocation at Hatshepsut. Ask about the planned distribution and whether there is free time after the explanations.

The combination already forms an excursion in its own right. If additional stops are offered, check whether they extend the overall duration or divide the existing time further. One more name in the programme does not automatically mean more sightseeing time.

I would not add another temple merely because it looks nearby on a map. Every stop involves arrival, getting your bearings and the visit itself. Whether the extension helps depends on your interest. A focused visit can leave more of an impression than a day whose second half feels like continually moving on.

Which tombs are planned?

“Valley of the Kings” alone does not answer the question about individual tombs. Ask for the intended admission coverage and whether special requests need additional bookings. If Tutankhamun is essential, the article on KV62 and admission options will help.

I would also clarify how the selection is made on the day. Is it tied to the booked option, suggested by the guide, or is there a choice? The short inventory does not support a fixed promise about this. For me, a transparent process is more valuable than a general statement about seeing the most famous tombs.

If you mainly want to compare several tomb sites, put the Kings and Queens valleys tour alongside it. That also lists 5 hours, but shifts the focus from the temple to another tomb area.

Pickup and individual needs

Send your accommodation details with the correct bank and have the actual meeting point confirmed. If you need a child seat, a particular vehicle access arrangement or assistance with walking routes, ask specifically. Mentioning hotel pickup does not establish that this equipment or support is available.

For reduced mobility, I would seek confirmation for each visit separately. Images of the temple terraces or the word “transfer” cannot establish suitability for the entire tour. Also ask how shortened participation or skipping a visit would be organised if relevant to you.

When I would book differently

If you have only one free day in Luxor and want to see both banks, the full-day arrangement may fit better. If you are already planning a full East Bank day, this more limited West Bank combination provides a sensible second focus.

For an unhurried excursion, I would establish exactly two things before paying: the essential visits and the confirmed return. Extra stops can be offered afterwards. That lets you judge whether an extension genuinely helps your day or simply makes an already suitable tour harder to assess.
